Abuja Chapter Chairman Declares As He Reveals What FG Has Failed To Do.

Indication has shown that there is no end in sight for the ongoing strike embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, going by the reality on ground.

Amid the counter-accusations between the union and the federal government, the ASUU University of Abuja Branch, has told Nigerians that the ongoing strike will continue because the federal government has not called the union for discussion, Daily Post reports.

This development was made known by the ASUU’s branch chairman, Dr Kassim Umaru. He said it during an interview with newsmen at the end of their Congress in the Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT on Tuesday. Umaru further challenged the federal government led by President Muhamamdu Buhari to mention any of the things it has done to bring to an end the ongoing strike embarked on by ASUU.


He stated that the federal government is not taking their welfare and demands serious adding that the government has not done any concrete thing to end the strike. Umaru added that the ASUU members have worked but have not been paid for the jobs they did. He noted that the federal government does not always see it as their responsibility to pay lecturers but regards it as something that they would always negotiate whenever they like while expecting the lecturers to keep working.

It would be recalled that the National President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, had openly criticized the lack of commitment from the federal government to end the lingering strike. He made it clear that ASUU members would not back down or call off the strike except if their demands are met. He added that some of the lecturers are even going back to their farms to continue making a living since the government was not showing readiness to meet their demands.
